The first 3 months of 2018 saw Dell EMC claim the top position from HPE in both server shipments and revenue, according to Gartner.

Global server revenue saw a year-on-year increase of 33.4% which was bolsted largely by growth in the Asia-Pacific region of 47.8%.

According to Jeffrey Hewitt, research vice president at Gartner, the growth is due to “increases in spending by hyperscale as well as enterprise and midsize data centers. Enterprises and midsize businesses are in the process of investing in their on-premises and colocation infrastructure to support server replacements and growth requirements even as they continue to invest in public cloud solutions.”

Global Market share as of end of March 2018

1. Dell EMC | 21.5 per cent
2. HPE | 19.9 per cent
3. Inspur Electronics | 7.1 per cent
4. Lenovo | 6.5 per cent
5. IBM | 6.4 per cent
