With all the noise around Cloud, you could be forgiven for believing that the server market is in decline. However, as Gartner reports, the server market continues to grow and grow. The stat’s are in for the end of 2014 and globally, server shipment increased by 2.2%.
HP took the global prize again with a whopping 27.9% of the worldwide market in the last quarter of 2014.
Much of the growth is driven by the hunger for more powerful x86 based product as the shift continues away from mainframe and Unix platforms. As Intel based technology continues it’s take over in a virtualised world, one of the key differences with the configurations shipping out nowadays is that the servers are ‘beefed up’ with dense RAM configurations, multi core CPU’s and large disk storage capacities all inside 1 machine.
