How do I know which SSDs to choose?
At last count, according to HP’s latest (March 2016) SSD datasheet, there are now some 160 SSD options available.
- Usage type – Write Intensive (WI), Read Intensive (RI) or Mixed Use (MU)
- Form factor – 2.5 inch or 3.5 inch
- Speed – 6G SATA, 12G SAS and NVMe
- Connection type – Hot Plug, PCIe or M.2
- Size – anywhere from 100GB right up to 3.64TB (at time of writing)
As with most IT hardware choices it comes down firstly to available budget and then making a good decision that balances the requirements for usage type, speed and size.
Can I retro-fit SSDs into my existing HP server hardware?
Yes you can. There are options available for most recent HP server models including Gen9, Gen8 and G7 servers.
